Barbara Ann Shoffner Powell

MOCKSVILLE – Mrs. Barbara Ann Shoffner Powell, 87, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Advance. She was born on September 3, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Martin Columbus and Emma Novella Southard Shoffner. Barbara was a long-time member of Dulin Church and enjoyed flower gardening and shopping. Her love for life was evident in her many passions: relaxing beach vacations, scenic mountain getaways in Tennessee, and the uplifting sounds of traditional Southern Gospel music. Though she may have driven fast, her legacy will be remembered for its warmth and kindness. She was a stern but loving mother who worked tirelessly to provide for her children and instill in them the importance of family unity. Her face would light up at the sight of a gift or her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished, always showing them love in abundance and eager for hugs. Barbara loved unconditionally and no matter what life handed her, she never wavered in her faith. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leo Harold Powell; a granddaughter, Jennifer Powell; two sisters and six brothers. Survivors include her seven children, Ronald Lee Shoffner (Libby), Bobby Joe Powell, Joyce Pulley (Jimmie), Jason Powell, Randy Powell, Marty Powell (Janet), and Janice “Winky” Burris (Terry); thirteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Truell, Rev. David Smith, and Pastor Bruce Morasco officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
