Mr. Monte Lanier Blackwood, 70, of Cooleemee, died of natural causes on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Monte was born on January 18, 1952, in Rowan County to the late Fred Lanier Blackwood, Jr. and Iva Eller Blackwood. He graduated from Davie County High School in 1970. He briefly served in the U.S. Army before spending many years as a business owner across Rowan, Davie, and Davidson counties. In 2012, he accomplished his life-long dream of opening an ice cream shop in Cooleemee, eventually relocating to downtown Mocksville. He proudly operated Scoops Ice Cream until his retirement in 2020. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Gary Michael Blackwood. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Joshua Blackwood of High Point, Monica Brinker of Lexington, Jason Blackwood of Lexington, and Robert Blackwood of Marion; brothers, Ronald Blackwood (Caryn) of Dallas, TX, Alan Dale Blackwood (Susan) of John’s Island, SC, and John Ratledge of Woodleaf; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
